Mr. McGuirk has worked for the firm, since his first year in law school, on a variety of civil and criminal cases. These cases include civil rights lawsuits, personal injury lawsuits, criminal appeals, state petitions for post-conviction relief and federal habeas corpus cases. Mr. McGuirk graduated with honors from the Cumberland School of Law in 2005. He finished in the top ten percent of his class and was a member of the Cumberland Law Review. Mr. McGuirk was a Judge Abraham Caruthers Fellow, serving as a teaching assistant in Cumberland's legal writing course. He participated in the Williams Trial Competition and the Haley Trial Competition, and was a finalist for the Judge Paul O. Moyle Award for Excellence in Legal Writing. Mr. McGuirk was named Scholar of Merit for Superior Performance in the following classes: Real Property, Criminal Procedure I, Jurisprudence, and Public School Law. Also, through the Street Law program, Mr. McGuirk taught the basics of juvenile law to students at Bush Middle School in Ensley. Mr. McGuirk is an avid runner and cyclist. He commutes to work by bicycle, and completed his first marathon in February of 2005. |
